Ways To Make Your Home Green

Ways To Make Your Home Green

This handy list of how to make your home more green as well as healthier is from PathNet.Org. They have 10 great ideas to help you achieve cost effective home ideas on the green.

1. Use CFLs

Replace your incandescent light bulbs (the cheap ones you probably got at the grocery store) with ENERGY STAR® qualified compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs). By replacing even your five most frequently used light bulbs, you’ll save $100 per year. If every family in the U.S.A. did this, greenhouse gas emissions would be reduced by one trillion pounds–there are 12 zeros in a trillion! More on energy-efficient lighting.

2. Program Your Thermostats

Save 10% on your heating and cooling costs just by setting your thermostat back when you’re not home and while you’re sleeping. Program your thermostat to 78 degrees F or higher in the summer and 62 degrees F or lower in the winter. If you tell it to return to your preferred temperature before you return home, you won’t ever know the temperature changed, until you look at the reduction in your energy bills. Select ENERGY STAR qualified programmable thermostats.

Take A Moment To Relax

Take A Moment To Relax

I love finding relaxing music to listen to when I have a second to get away. Music has an amazing ability to change our minds and even our thoughts. This is often a way of healing for many people. Enjoy this wonderful piece as it is incredibly relaxing.

Now, researchers from Italy and the UK have found that it is the silence between the tones, and not musical tones per se, that induces feelings of relaxation. “…music may give pleasure (and perhaps a health benefit) as a result of this controlled alternation between arousal and relaxation,” said researcher Dr Luciano Bernardi of the University of Pavia, concluding: “Appropriate selection of music, by alternating fast and slower rhythms and pauses, can be used to induce relaxation and reduce sympathetic activity and thus may be potentially useful in the management of cardiovascular disease.” ( Science News)

Violet Flame Meditation

Violet Flame Meditation

I use this one as much as I can. It is very relaxing meditation that is simple to use.

While you can’t go back in time, the violet flame has the power to erase the cause and effect, and even the memory of our past mistakes, or what we call Karma. The violet flame changes negative energy into positive energy, darkness into light, “fate” into opportunity.

In general, most people must pay their debt to life, or “balance” their karma, by selflessly reaching out and helping others, by working through misfortunes that come their way, or by passing through diseases or other forms of personal suffering. The violet flame is able to transmute or mitigate our negative karma before it comes back to us. This meditation helps change our vibration so that we may transcend into higher purpose.

1. Sit with your back straight, legs and arms uncrossed. This allows the energy to follow along your spine and through the chakras – the spiritual energy centers in your body.

2. Center your attention in the area of your heart. Visualize your heart glowing and emitting light rays like a sun.

3. While reciting, visualize the violet flame surrounding you, and those whom you love, your home, city, country, the planet – according to your needs. If you’d like a deep and intense internal cleansing or healing, visualize the flame penetrating your whole body. Let it flow into your arteries and your veins, restoring them to perfect health.

Broccoli Is Almost Here

Broccoli Is Almost Here

It is almost time for fall veggies to make their way to farmer’s market and our local grocery stories. One of my top veggies in the fall is broccoli. I love these healthy green veggie, and better yet so does my whole family. So, what makes these crunchy greens so healthy? Here are a few little nutritional health facts to keep you reminded when you go to the store.

Broccoli contains protein and is one of the richest vegetable sources of calcium, iron and magnesium.

Broccoli contains selenium, a mineral that has been found to have anti-cancer and anti-viral properties.

Research has shown that compound (indole-3-carbinol)helps deactivate a potent estrogen metabolite that promotes tumor growth, especially in estrogen-sensitive breast cells, while at the same time increasing the level of 2-hydroxyestrone, a form of estrogen that can be cancer-protective. Indole-3 carbinol has been shown also to suppress not only breast tumor cell growth, but also cancer cell metastasis (the movement of cancerous cells to other parts of the body).

Broccoli is also good for helping sun-damaged skin, reducing heart disease risk, and cataract prevention.

Broccoli is great for pregnant woman to, as it boost a good amount of folic acid.

How To Let Go Of Fear

How To Let Go Of Fear

We all experience it at one point. Fear is a very strong emotion that plays a immense toll on us both physically and emotionally. I remember one of my mentors told me that fear is false evidence appearing real. Fear will completely hold you still if you let it. The point of it is to not allow us to personally grow. It is perfectly normal to have fear, but remember that you need to process through it instead of getting stuck in it. So, what are some ways to help move through fearful times.

1. Stand in your fear. There is nothing better then standing consciously in your fear. This exercise makes you aware of what worries and scares us. For instance, if you are afraid of the dark, sit down in a dark space and look around you. What about the dark scares you, is it reality or is it your imagination. The more you do this exercise the more familiar you will get will your fear. The more you know about it, the better you will be to process it.

2. Do not judge your self. When you judge your self for having fears the longer it will take to let your fear go. Remember, the point is to recognizing these fears head on. If you judge your self because of them then you may find your self hiding your fears so that you don’t have to deal with them. The first great step is to not judge your fears no matter how they make you feel.

3. Keep to your truth. When we don’t go through our fear we can’t find our truth. Start to do all those wonderful things that you set aside for your life. When you go over what you want from life it gives purpose- that in it self can lift your blanket of fear.
