Preparing For Cold And Flu Season

Preparing For Cold And Flu Season

With the fall season upon us we all await the dreaded cold and flu that comes with the cooler weather. Now, is a good time to stock up on some great products to help us avoid and shorten our cold and flu season.

I read a article, Preparing For The Cold Season By Anne McIntrye FNIMH. She talks about what you can use to support your immune system as well as what to have on handle if you come down with a cold.

Bearing this in mind the first steps to enhance immunity are to improve digestion and assimilation and to detoxify the system. Spices such as ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, coriander, clove, black pepper and asafoetida are some of the best remedies for the digestion and for raising immunity and these can be taken as part of your diet and as tasty hot teas. Take ginger. Its pungency warms and strengthens the digestion, stimulates the flow of digestive juices and invigorates the whole system. The volatile oils are highly antiseptic, activating immunity and dispelling bacterial and viral infections. Similarly cinnamon is a perfect remedy for warding off the effects of the cold, invigorating the digestion and detoxifying the body.

She talks about many herbs such as the classic echinacea, licorice, astragalus, cinnamon, and ginger. Many of these have great success helping the body assimilate to fighting colds and other fall and winter illnesses.

What You Can Do About EMFs

What You Can Do About EMFs

Electric and Magnetic Fields (EMF)
EMF are invisible lines of force surrounding any electrical wire or device. They consist of two components — the electric field, which is the result of voltage, and the magnetic field, which is the result of current flow.

What Should Be In My Meditation Space?

What Should Be In My Meditation Space?

Q: I have made space in my attic for a meditation space and yoga studio. The thought behind this is to get me motivated to continue on a regular meditation schedule as well as a place to de-stress at the end of the day. My question is, what should be in my meditation space? Should I leave certain things out? Should I paint?

- Franky A., Oregon

A: The number one thing to keep in mind in any meditation space it make sure there is no distractions or noise. If there is computers, TV, or lots of out door noise it makes it really hard to concentrate and relax. Also, make sure there is no clutter. Otherwise, there is no set meditation space. Surround it with things that make you feel secure. This can be through colors, lots of pillows and blankets, essential oils, or even plants. In my space I have set up a darker room that helps keep me relaxed. I personally find to much light can make it hard to keep meditating. This is always a personal preference for everyone. I have included some great meditation spaces to get your mind thinking.

Heroes: Rescue in the Water

Heroes: Rescue in the Water

Mike McClure waded into Sarasota Bay for a little fishing on a beautiful day last April. The 67-year-old retired youth counselor had been angling in Florida’s intracoastal waters for years. This afternoon, the water off the New College of Florida campus was shallow enough at low tide that McClure could easily walk 100 yards offshore and cast his line in any direction. Sporting waders that reached up to his chest, he worked his way south down a sandbar, searching for his first nibble of the day.

“I was just enjoying the heck out of the experience,” says McClure.

Near sunset, still without a fish, he decided to turn back. Rather than retrace his earlier course, though, he chose a more direct path toward shore, assuming the bay wouldn’t get deeper along the way. Instead, it had become an impassable trough, and he was trapped. “When I turned around and realized that the water was getting close to my waist, I just felt so alone,” he remembers. He tried to wade along different angles, but shallower water eluded him. Finally, he decided his safest option was to head straight for land and hope for the best.

“Within about five steps, the water was coming in through the top of the waders,” says McClure.

Inspiring Thoughts

We forget that forgiveness is greater than revenge.  People make mistakes.

We are allowed to make mistakes. But the actions we take while in a rage will haunt us forever.

Pause and ponder. Think before you act. Be patient. Forgive & forget. Love one and all.

If you judge people, you have no time to love them. — Mother Teresa
