How My 2 Year Old Teaches Me To Stay Happy

I have a very active 2.5 year old boy who is always on the go. He is very sweet, loving, and extremely caring soul. He recently started to understand emotions and empathy. This is when you have to make sure that how you are feeling doesn’t effect your children. My son can take on every emotion you through at him; just like me. However, he has started to say things like, “mommy, it’s ok,” or ” daddy, I love you” (which he has made into a personal song) that always brightens the day.

You forget how carefree toddlers and children feel life is. I believe that it’s a gift that children give us. Often, when children are born we may feel stressed because we worry about their future as well as the families. Will we be able to support a growing family? Will there be enough love?  Can I juggle work, play and baby? Children are great teachers. They show us that things that seemed so important before bear nothing close to the importance of family and children.

So, what are a few things that my son does to make me stay happy:

1. Being happy. There is not a moment that my child is not happy. Even if he gets in trouble he bounces right back happier then ever. This makes me feel happy.

2. His incredible kindness. There is not much my son won’t do if you ask him. He is always the first to say “sorry”, or give a friend a hug when they are sad.

3. He is non-judgmental. Wasn’t that a great trait when we were young. You have no concept of harsh judgement. My son does not judge, but instead loves. If we could keep this trait going all through life we’d be better off.

4. Incredible curiosity. The curiosity of a 2 year old is amazing! Everything is fresh and new. How can that not inspire a parent.

5. He is a mini-me. He is at an age where everything he learns must be tried at least once. My absolute favorite is watching my son try to do yoga when mommy does it.
