I had to post this article written by the Chicago Tribune here because I like to see that hospital’s are changing their products to a more natural based line. This particular product used at this hospital happens to be Earth Mama Angel Baby products that I find a great choice for mother and baby.

Hospital switches to natural products

Earth Mama 003 Goodbye Johnson’s Baby Shampoo. Hello Earth Mama.

Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital has discontinued handing our free infant formula samples to new moms unless you’ve specifically requested the products in writing.

Instead, the parting gift is a bag stuffed with organic personal care products—including natural nipple butter if you’re breast feeding– that have no artificial preservatives, fragrances and dyes. The brand the hospital is using—Earth Mama Angel Baby—is “100 percent toxin-free, cruelty-free and vegan,” officials said.

Free samples of Earth Mama Body Butter, Natural Stretch Oil and Morning Wellness Tea are also given to prenatal class participants and patients.

“Very few moms bring in their own products,” said Kathy Mitchell, chief nursing officer at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital. “We really think it’s not only the right thing but it reflects favorably on mother-baby care at the hospital.”

Nortwestern Memorial Hospital eliminated free formula in 2007 to encourage more moms to breastfeed.  Instead, new moms receive discharge bags with educational materials.

What’s missing from all hospital departure kits is a free copy of Anne Lamott’s wonderful book “Operating Instructions,” my friend Dina observed.
