The time right now is not allowing us to spend heavy and make purchases that we can’t afford. The transition in America is heading us back to the simple basics. This includes spending less and savoring more time with family and less time sitting in traffic. If you are like me and looking for ways to cut down on some cost here are a few to consider.
1. Ask about a barter- this is a great one that most people I know don’t think about. I have friends who trade their yoga sessions in exchange for naturopath services. You can offer a simple services for someone in return if you can’t afford the costs.
2. Know when you should go organic- I found this one inside a health magazine. I like to point out that not everything you eat has to be organic if you can’t afford the costs. Not all conventionally grown produces are bad. For example, nonorganic onions, avocados, and pineapples have light pesticide loads. However, conventional peaches, strawberries, and peppers get heavily sprayed, so it’s smart to splurge on organic brands for these. Another good rule: Go organic on items you use every day, like milk and bread.
3. Don’t buy everything brand name- especially when it comes to your main staples. Most genaric names are actually made by the brand name companies and usually cost up to 30% less.
4. Make your own nontoxic cleaning products. With a stash of distilled vinegar, lemon juice, baking soda, and olive oil, and essential oils is all you need to get started. You can find great recipes online.
5. Share your skills with others- Get certified in areas you enjoy such as yoga or pilates. Gyms can give their instructors free or discounted memberships, making the price of your certification worth it.
