Have you ever wondered if the sheets that you sleep on in bed ever contribute to your overall sleep health, and also your bedroom romance? I did. We all know how colors can affect us on a conscious and subconscious level. Every color has its own vibration that allows our mind and body to respond. Here are some examples.

Red
Excitement, energy, passion, desire, speed, strength, power, heat, love, aggression, danger, fire, blood

Yellow
Joy, happiness, optimism, idealism, imagination, hope, sunshine, summer, gold, philosophy, dishonesty, cowardice, betrayal, jealousy, covetousness, deceit, illness, hazard.

Blue
Peace, tranquility, calm, stability, harmony, unity, trust, truth, confidence, conservatism, security, cleanliness, order, loyalty, sky, water, cold, technology, depression, appetite suppressant.

Orange
Energy, balance, warmth, enthusiasm, vibrant, expansive, flamboyant, demanding of attention.

Green
Nature, environment, healthy, good luck, renewal, youth, vigor, spring, generosity, fertility, jealousy, inexperience, envy, misfortune.

Purple
Royalty, spirituality, nobility, spirituality, ceremony, mysterious, transformation, wisdom, enlightenment, cruelty, arrogance, mourning.

Gray
Security, reliability, intelligence, staid, modesty, dignity, maturity, solid, conservative, practical, old age, sadness, boring.

Brown
Earth, hearth, home, outdoors, reliability, comfort, endurance, stability, simplicity, and comfort.

White
Reverence, purity, simplicity, cleanliness, peace, humility, precision, innocence, youth, birth, winter, snow, good, sterility, marriage (Western cultures), death (Eastern cultures), cold, clinical, sterile.

Black
Power, sexuality, sophistication, formality, elegance, wealth, mystery, fear, evil, anonymity, unhappiness, depth, sadness, remorse, anger.

I took it upon my self to try a fun experiment to the test. For 15 days I tried four different colors; yellow, red, green, and purple.

Yellow was the first color that I used. Believe it or not the yellow actually made me feel more stimulated and excited. It was a brighter shade of yellow. I also found myself up more often with the yellow sheets then the other colors. The second color was a light green. These sheets made me feel very secure in my bed. I didn’t feel over stimulated and I slept just fine through the night. In my opinion I feel that green is a very soothing color that is perfect for bedroom and night time us. The last one I used was red. I wanted to us this color more for the intimacy that it is suppose to create when used. I have to say red is a very powerful. I feel even more secure in red. It did make me feel more passionate, and it might have help with my romance a little bit more then the other colors the five days I used it. Overall, I slept the best in red. I found myself falling a sleep very fast, and sleeping the longest hours. Very interesting.

The purple I used was in my son’s bed. This color is one of my favorites. I don’t have purple sheets for my bed yet, but I do have them for him. Purple is by far one of the best sheets and blankets to use when you are sick. Purple is very healing in its vibration, and does wonders for feeling nurtured. During this time my son came down with an ear infection. We put purple sheets on his bed and within a day of long sleep and rest he was feeling great!

So the next time you are out shopping for new sheets think about what color you might need. Usually the color that we are drawn to the most is the color that we probably would benefit the most from.

Happy sleep!

There is no doubt that for many of us eating a healthy balanced diet makes us feel better. We feel lighter, clear-headed, and less stressed. But did you ever wonder why some foods make you feel better then others? If we all listened to what our body was telling us to eat we would probably be surprised how our body, mind, and soul feel. Like our bodies, food holds its own energy. The better you feed your food, the more sun it gets, and the better you take care of growing your food all make up how your foods energy vibrates. As my research on organic food grows it proves every time that buying generic foods our not the way to go if possible. The many pesticides and preservatives used deplete foods energy the same way toxins affect our bodies energy. When we consume these foods that vibration again affects the balance of our body.

From HighlySensitiveSouls.com

1. Eat lots of vegetables and fruits that are fresh, whole, and organic, preferably from small local farms where they are grown by people who care about what they are doing (yes, this DOES affect the vibration of the food). If you can’t afford ALL organic, try to eliminate the “dirty dozen.” You’ll cut down on your pesticide intake by 90%.

2. Notice how you feel after you eat something. This is doing a “vibe-check.” How is your energy? What is your mood like? If you were to rate your vibration on a scale of 1 to 10, what would it be? This will help you steer clear of food choices that leave you in a low vibration state.

3. Keep your eyes out for superfoods like nuts, berries (blueberries, acai, gogi), raw foods (cacao nibs, veggies) and nutrient-dense foods, like lacto-fermented vegetables and kefir, and add them in where you can.

4. Try to get at least 2 to 3 vibrantly colored foods on your plate at each meal, preferably different colors (no, brown doesn’t count). I like to have roasted beets, grated carrot salad, and steamed greens, along with a grain and a protein, for instance.

5. Stay inspired with what you are eating by getting ideas from other people, reading great cook books, and mixing and matching your veggies with other delectable treats, like fresh herbs, Celtic sea salt, nuts, seeds, cheeses, and dried fruits.

6. If you get off track, balance the not-so-high-vibration foods with the good ones to bring yourself back into alignment.

7. Aim to make 50 to 70% of your plate be high-vibe veggie-filled! A few great books that are excellent on explaining how water and food communicate our: “Food and Healing” by Annmarie Colbin, and “The Hidden Message of Water” by Masaru Emoto. If you haven’t read then I highly recommend.

Happy Eating!

Nearly five millennia ago, the Yellow Emperor’s Classics of Medicine recognized the seasonal influences on health and illness. According to Chinese medicine, the winter season is linked to kidneys, the adrenal glands, and the bladder; when these bodily systems are out of balance, it depletes energy and leads the way to illness. During the cold months of winter, people are more prone to colds, flu, poor circulation, low vitality, and seasonal mood disorders.

To stay healthy, happy, and vital, follow the wise winter advice of the Yellow Emperor:

1. Early to bed, rise when the sun is up

The Yellow Emperor advises us to avoid experiencing excessive emotions in the winter because they drain your energy reserves.

• Follow your bliss. Use the cold dark days of winter to stay in and cuddle up with a book, or pick up a new indoor hobby, like knitting, woodcarving, baking — whatever appeals to you.

• Beat the winter blues with light therapy. Studies show that exposure to sunlight stimulates the pineal gland, which affects the production of other brain chemicals such as serotonin, the neurotransmitter sometimes called the “mood chemical.” It can also boost your immune system, waking up the activities of the natural killer cells that patrol our borders looking for intruders and cancer cells. If weather permits, get outdoors daily and let the sun bathe you with its life-giving and spirit-lifting properties. Even in the winter, avoid overexposure with sunscreen if out in the sun between 10 am – 3 pm.

2. Nurture energy storage

The three months of winter are when all living things should return home and be conserved. Engage in activities that are in harmony with the energies of winter.

• Physical movement is essential for circulating energy — but avoid perspiring excessively. In Chinese medicine, the sweat is seen as an escape of yang energy. Nurture your energy reserves by being active in a moderate way. Walking is one moderate activity to keep your energy up. Or consider practicing tai chi or qigong exercises, which are very effective in balancing energy.

• Avoid energy-depleting activities. Don’t try to do too much in one day. Try making only one or two items a priority every day. And be sure you give yourself some personal time, not just from other people, but also from our modern amenities that claim ever more of our personal space, such as TV, computers, and smart phones.

3. Eat for the season: no raw, cold foods

To keep your health and energy up in the cold months of winter, the Yellow Emperor recommends avoiding cold and raw foods, reducing salt to protect your kidneys, and increasing bitter flavors (like kale, for instance.) So steer clear of raw vegetables, cold salads, and icy cold foods and beverages.

In winter, you’ll tend toward a warming diet including leeks, onions, and turnips. Also, iron-rich foods can help warm you up: try spinach, broccoli, dried plums, oats, quinoa, sunflower and sesame seeds, walnuts, yams, squash, kale, garlic, scallions, and parsley. Hearty soups are good for you during the winter months. Drink only warm or hot water.

4. Avoid coldness and linger around warmth

• Dress warmly, paying special attention to your middle. In Chinese medicine, the abdomen is considered the storehouse of the body’s energy. Keeping your abdomen warm and protected from weather extremes has immense immunity benefits. A good way to replenish your energy bank is to regularly place a hot water bottle on your middle.

• Drink warming tea to keep your vitality fired up. Steep 1 teaspoon of any of the following in 1 cup of hot water: ginger, cinnamon, and clove. Or try the Winter Tea to expel cold, warm your kidney/adrenal system, and stoke your sensual fire.

• Chinese herbs can protect your energy reserves and boost your immunity. Astragalus and ginseng are considered to be adaptogens — natural substances that improve the body’s resistance to physical and environmental stress, thereby enhancing the immune system.

If you go against these rules for winter, it is said that weakness and coldness in the extremities will leave your energy level weakened in the spring.

I love the advice from Dr. Maoshing Ni. He always gives wonderful advice and articles on Yahoo Health. One thing that he talks about is keeping healthy during the winter months, and how important it is is to slow down during this time. I encourage his book, ” Secrets of Self-Healing.”
