Brushing For Your Skin

Brushing For Your Skin

Have you considered brushing your skin in the morning? Dry skin brushing is such a great way to help your body stimulate the lymphatic system, enhancing blood circulation, reduce cellulite, and the release toxins. Often times if you are on a detox plan they might tell you to do this, but you can also use it daily. Dry brushing has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for many many years. So, how do you dry bush:

* The ideal time to dry brush is in the morning before you shower, so that you can rinse off the impurities loosened by the massage.

* You will want to massage your entire body, excluding your face, chest, and heart. Also avoid sensitive areas and anywhere the skin is broken or inflamed.

* Use circular strokes on the stomach and joints (shoulders, elbows, knees, wrists, hips, and ankles). Use long, sweeping strokes on the arms and legs. Always massage toward your heart to ensure the proper circulation of lymph fluid.

* Apply light pressure where the skin is thin, such as the underarms, and harder pressure where the skin is thicker, such as the soles of the feet.

* Massage from your feet upward, continuing up to your torso and neck. Also massage your hands up through your shoulders.

Overactive Adrenal Glands

Overactive Adrenal Glands

Scientists have found increased blood levels of stress hormones in people with chronic insomnia, suggesting that these individuals suffer from sustained, round-the-clock activation of the body’s system for responding to stress.

For this reason, the researchers suggest, doctors who treat insomnia should go beyond improving the quality or quantity of their patients’ sleep and seek to reduce this hyperarousal, which is a risk factor for both psychiatric and medical illness.
Investigators monitored the sleep of 11 patients with insomnia and 13 people without sleep disturbances (the “control” group). Blood was collected every 30 minutes for 24 hours, and levels of stress hormones — adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) and cortisol were monitored.

Average levels of both hormones were significantly higher in the insomniacs than in the control group. They found that the insomniacs with the highest degree of sleep disturbance secreted the highest amount of cortisol, particularly in the evening and nighttime hours,” Vgontzas said in a prepared statement. This means that insomniacs are experiencing hormonal changes in their bodies, which prevents them from sleeping.
The investigators propose that the physical mechanism of chronic insomnia differs from that of sleep loss, with chronic insomnia being a disorder of hyperarousal present throughout the 24-hour sleep/wake cycle. Increased production of stress hormones is likely to lead not only to depression, but also to high blood pressure, obesity and osteoporosis.

Tea Meditation

Who knew drinking tea was all you needed to meditate. Tea meditation is becoming popular, and is in essence very similar to mindful meditation. When we drink tea it creates the same sense of serenity and inner peace that meditation gives us. Most tea is always very detoxifying for the body just like meditation. There is no best or worst time of the day to do tea meditation, but if you are looking to start your day on a reflexy state of mind pour your self a warm cup of tea of your liking and simply reflect. Make sure you are in a quiet space with no loud TV or people talking. Continue Reading

Do You Have Time To Meditate?

A question I get quit often is, how do I find the time to meditate? The answer is never easy because sticking to a meditation routine is just as hard as sticking to eating healthy and exercising regulary. However, the advantage of meditation is that you can practice it anywhere at anytime. I tell people they can start first thing in the morning before they get out of bed. Continue Reading
