Yummy Bananas

Yummy Bananas

We all love bananas, but even I didn’t know how deliciously healthy these yellow fruits are. Containing three natural sugars – sucrose, fructose and glucose – combined with fiber, a banana gives an instant, and sustained boost of energy.

Anemia:  High in iron, bananas can stimulate the
production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

Blood Pressure:  This unique tropical fruit is high in potassium yet  low in salt, making it the perfect food for helping to beat blood pressure.

Constipation: Bananas are high in fiber, which restores normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by  MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better  after eating banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals
helps to keep blood sugar  levels up and avoid morning sickness. ( Does a great job with this).

PMS:  Forget the pills eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it has regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

Stress:  Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body’s water-balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, there by reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.

10 Food Toxins To Stay Away From

10 Food Toxins To Stay Away From

1. Stay away from processed meats like bacon, hot dogs, and sausage. Sodium nitrate accounts for their appetizing red hue, but this additive can also cause the formation of nitrosamines in your system, which can lead to cancer.

2. Stick to low-mercury fish like American-farmed tilapia instead of swordfish or tuna. Overexposure can cause memory problems, fatigue, and other health issues, and besides, most wild fish stocks are threatened these days. (Looking for an alternative? There’s branzini, the fish you’ve never heard of.)

3. Reduce the amount of canned food you consume. Cans are commonly lined with bisphenol-A, an organic compound that, according to the Lang study, may be associated with diabetes and heart disease.

4. Cut back on meat and dairy products. These animal products may contain trace amounts of harmful contaminants like polybrominated diphenyl ethers, polychlorinated biphenyl and dioxins. Although many of these toxins have been banned, they are still present in the soil. Reducing your intake of animal products is also more friendly to the environment.

Ways To Make Your Home Green

Ways To Make Your Home Green

This handy list of how to make your home more green as well as healthier is from PathNet.Org. They have 10 great ideas to help you achieve cost effective home ideas on the green.

1. Use CFLs

Replace your incandescent light bulbs (the cheap ones you probably got at the grocery store) with ENERGY STAR® qualified compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs). By replacing even your five most frequently used light bulbs, you’ll save $100 per year. If every family in the U.S.A. did this, greenhouse gas emissions would be reduced by one trillion pounds–there are 12 zeros in a trillion! More on energy-efficient lighting.

2. Program Your Thermostats

Save 10% on your heating and cooling costs just by setting your thermostat back when you’re not home and while you’re sleeping. Program your thermostat to 78 degrees F or higher in the summer and 62 degrees F or lower in the winter. If you tell it to return to your preferred temperature before you return home, you won’t ever know the temperature changed, until you look at the reduction in your energy bills. Select ENERGY STAR qualified programmable thermostats.

Take A Moment To Relax

Take A Moment To Relax

I love finding relaxing music to listen to when I have a second to get away. Music has an amazing ability to change our minds and even our thoughts. This is often a way of healing for many people. Enjoy this wonderful piece as it is incredibly relaxing.

Now, researchers from Italy and the UK have found that it is the silence between the tones, and not musical tones per se, that induces feelings of relaxation. “…music may give pleasure (and perhaps a health benefit) as a result of this controlled alternation between arousal and relaxation,” said researcher Dr Luciano Bernardi of the University of Pavia, concluding: “Appropriate selection of music, by alternating fast and slower rhythms and pauses, can be used to induce relaxation and reduce sympathetic activity and thus may be potentially useful in the management of cardiovascular disease.” ( Science News)
